In response to COVID-19, E-commerce sales jumped a whopping 49 percent in April, 2021. As online sales increase, packing waste the getting crucial. In a recent survey, 83 percent of consumers in the US which commonly know as a country that advanced in online sales said they considered the environment at the checkout such as excessive waste it might be generate, and induced carbon footprint.
As a brand and group of people who care about transparency and sustainability, we, Ami-tumi, will take actions to challenge this issue.
As a small brand, especially we need to consider international shipping which low number of carriers offer the service, it is difficult to establish environmentally friendly logistics system by ourselves.
So what we can do?
We are considering eco-packing materials in stead of current plastic stand-up pouch. As for new material, below are the properties we need in order to meets the standers of Ami-tumi products.
1. Durability
If we use materials like paper, there is a possibility it gets torn especially if it gets soaked during our local and international shipping. Moreover, in case it gets stacked, it will easily damage. Therefore, the material needs to be as resistant and waterproof as plastics.
2. Cost
If we simply compare paper and plastic, it could be cheaper to choose paper wrapping. However, as mention above, it has to be tough to protect products.
